WHEW! The first day…

23rd April, 2008

It was my first day at SAP Labs.
My brain is tired, I’m blogging anyway. So, what do it start with? I had my first day in SAP Labs, yesterday and it was awesome. My set only met from 9-5, so I started off the day by sleeping in. It was so nice to wake up on my own on a weekday without the use of an alarm clock. I woke feeling very refreshed and excited for the day. After grabbing a bite to eat at commons I headed my way to SAP Labs.

Being the first day at SAP Labs, I had to go to an Induction that was supposed to last for 3 whole days. To my pleasant surprise the induction started and ended at exact 9Am and 5Pm respectively and we were all free to leave for the day.

I planned to use the good old rule to arrive early for the induction, but to my surprise i found all the good seats in the back and on the sides were already taken. But, guess what; seats where available. That’s right, the two front rows, where I absolutely hate to sit. Nonetheless, I had to sit there, and I looked like Captain Jacksparrow on the front row, and being forced to pay attention to our benefits packages, allowances, and tax forms.

I wasn’t able to locate the batch/team where I would be working eventually after these Induction. Everyone seemed pretty nice, and Gagan Daga and Roopa gave me a rundown of how things were going to work. I found out that I was an employee who was salary exempt, which means whether I work 40 or 50 hours, I get paid the same(that was the same case with everyone around here). However, the beauty of SAP Labs is the fact is that they try to keep the employees around 40 hours.

Part of my job at SAP Labs(reason why, I love it) is working with guys from Research and Breakthrough Innovation in developing new products for SAP Labs. Yesterday, I(in fact everyone) had great presentation in the induction and they are interested in pilot project.

Today I had to sit with another guy(Navneet) who has the same position I do. Basically, I happen to just watch what he did, and didn’t have a clue, considering it was my second day. Nonetheless, it made for an easy but slow day at SAP Labs. Tomorrow I would be told as to what team I would have to report to and have to go to computer training for the next week and a half.

The thing I love the most so far at SAP Labs is the canteen. Full lunch buffet including goodies such as rotis, eggs, toast, fruit salad and yoghurt, currys, cereals and proper coffee etc and the lunch menu would rival any cafe(although, I just had a toast and yoghurt). The best thing is that nothing costs you nothing! I tell you, I’m going to put on weight unless I guard vigilantly.

The thing I hate most so far is the bus journey. The first time I have taken the bus and it was stuck in a traffic jam! I’m just planning to take up a house next to the company to reduce this journey time. Ideally, I’m planning to save about 30-40 minutes in travel time as well as avoid the polluted environment.

I better scoot now! I have to get some stuff together for the Induction and make sure I’m organized and ready to go for the weekend.
